Faith Akoth - The textile program transformed my passion into a practical skill and a pathway to independence

My name is Faith Akoth, and my journey at Daraja Textile Hub began in September 2024 when I joined Cohort 3.

Before then, I had no experience in sewing or garment making — just a deep passion for fashion and design and a strong desire to learn.

When I started, everything was new to me.

I learned how to thread a machine, understand different fabric types, and do basic stitching.

With consistent effort, mentorship, and encouragement from the trainers at the hub, I gradually built my confidence and improved my skills.

As I continued to practice, I learned to operate various machines — from the electric sewing machine to the overlock, flatlock, button-holer, and button-attaching machines.

I even mastered freehand cutting, something I never thought I could do when I started.

Today, I’m proud to say that I am part of the production team at Daraja Textile Hub, contributing to the creation of high-quality garments.

I am now earning an income from my work — turning my passion into a profession.

The experience has not only given me technical skills but also confidence, independence, and a renewed belief that with passion and perseverance, dreams truly can come true
